Harlem Bubblegum
This was my first shot in Harlem. I loved the bubblegum and candy machines because colour always entices me. As I looked at the background I noticed the run-down convenient store and all its colours. The paper trash bag in the middle of the candy machines, as well as the locks on the machine and door, represent Harlem and its deterioration and high crime levels. My favourite part of this photograph is the man's expression on the left; he looks so interested in what I am doing photographing what looks to be such a familiar environment for him... I can see him thinking "what does this girl find so fascinating about this storefront?" Also, as I walked by he said something along the lines of "everyone always goes for the bubblegum". I laughed because it was the first thing I was drawn to.

I really like the way you put the man in the picture, because it tells us a lot about the place you took the photo. I also like your description that he looked at you with interest because you were taking a photo of something that is not so remarkable to him and something that he sees all the time, and how what is insignificant to someone can be viewed differently at another angle.
I love this picture. This guy really looks like he has something on his mind, and he also looks a little bit shy, but mostly amused and flattered that you're taking his picture.
